This thermopolium on via delle Terme (VI 8, 8) is directly across from the entrance to the Forum Baths. The U-shaped counter near the street was covered with smooth marble slabs, with large pottery containers (dolia) built in for serving hot food and mulled spiced wine (calida).

Such an establishment could be a neighborhood stand specializing in two or three items, such as wine, lentils, meats, or cheese, or a more elegant setting with frescoed walls decorating the dining area. The latter variety of thermopoliae, with eat-in facilities, were called cauponae.
