Pompeii: Stabian Baths, plan (VII 1, 8)

Pompeii: plan of the Stabian Baths (Athena Review Image Archive)

The Stabian Baths are located at the intersection of via Stabiae and via dell' Abbondanza, in Regio 7, Insula 1, 8.  They are the oldest baths in Pompeii, first built in the 4th century BC. The earliest baths included the Palaestra or gymnasium and small, individual baths in the north side, fed by a well.

The expanded layout of the Stabian Baths, shown here, dates from the 1st century BC. It included separate men's and women's baths, each with a hot room (calidarium), warm room (tepidarium), cold room (frigidarium), and dressing room (apodyterium).
