Pompeii: Hypocaust of the Stabian Baths (photo late 19th c.)


This late 19th century photo shows the hypocaust area of the Stabian Baths. This  included a furnace to heat the water and a series of vents to channel heated air to the calidarium.  The network of brick tiles supported a floor raised for heated air circulation.
