Pompeii: Macellum, fresco with Eros and nymph (photo: Athena Review 2003)

In the marketplace or Macellum next to the Forum are a number of fresco paintings in the 4th Style, which date from the 1st century AD.  The northwest wall (VII 9, 7-8) has 4th style frescos with fantasy architectural elements alternating with panels of  mythological figures.

This detail of a painting from the northwest wall of the Macellum shows Eros with a nymph.
