The House of the Sculptor (VIII.7.24) is located on via Stabiana, next to the Temple of  Aesculapius. This view looks west across the atrium to the open tablinium. At right is a doorway to rooms in the north side of the atrium. In the foreground is the impluvium.

The house, which according to the 19th century archaeologist Fiorelli is of very ancient construction, was transformed into a workshop. The large tufa blocks forming the doorway to rooms on the north side of the atrium are of Samnite construction and date to the 2nd-1st century BC.

It was excavated in 1773, 1796, and 1863.
