Pompeii: House of the Golden Cupids, atrium frescos in 4th style

Pompeii: 4th style Atrium frescos in House of the Golden Cupids  (photo: Athena Review)

The House of the Golden Cupids (VI 16, 7) is considered one of the best examples of domestic architecture and painting in the age of  Nero.

This image shows a detail of the 4th style fresco paintings on the upper wall of the atrium. At left is a typical fantasy landscape with palm trees and a temple in the fourth style, similar to those in the Temple of Isis. At right is a mythological figure with a small tragic mask nearby at far right.
