Pompeii: Atrium of House of Cissonii (photo: Athena Review)

The House of Cissonii is also called the Casa de Trittolemo (VII 7, 2). This view shows the atrium which contains a marble impluvium.  A series of stucco-covered columns lead to the tablinium with fresco paintings in the 2nd + 4th styles, most of which were destroyed in World War II.

The house was excavated in 1859-1871. A large garden beyond the house contained an altar painted with flowers and dedicated to Lares or household gods. In AD 79 the house belonged to L. Calpurnius Diogenes.
