Herculaneum: House of the Wooden Partition mural

Herculaneum: House of the Wooden Partition. mural in third style (photo: Athena Review)

The House of the Wooden Partition was extensively redecorated in the early 1st century AD. The bedrooms or cubiculae around the atrium contain a number of mural paintings in the third syle, some of which, like this example, have white backgrounds with small colored insets.

In this panel from a cubicula, the restrained, geometrical, arbor-like motifs contain birds and floral themes.
