Herculaneum: House of Aristides atrium

Herculaneum: House of Aristides atrium with impluvium (photo: Athena Review)

The entrance portal in the House of Aristides leads into a small atrium with a central impluvium. The south side of the atrium (viewed here) has three doors leading to the southern part of the house. A single door on the west side (not visible) leads to a large open room.

The plaster originally covering the atrium walls has disappeared, revealing opus reticulatum masonry in the walls, with opus mixtum used in the door frames and corners.
