Herculaneum: House of the Genius peristyle

Herculaneum: Peristyle of the House of the Genius (photo: Athena Review)

The House of the Genius had a large peristyle containing a garden, with colonnades, one of which is seen here, viewed from the side.

At right, around the upper arch, and part of the near wall is opus reticulatum with diagonally-placed cut limestone blocks. The lower structural walls are made of opus mixtum, with tile-like brick alternating with cut limestone.
