Paestum: Seated figurine of goddess with tall headdress

Paestum: figurine of goddess with tall headdress (Mus.Naz.Paestum; photo Athena Review 2003)

This terracotta figurine portrays a seated woman wearing a high headdress (polos). Her hair and facial features are typical of Late Archaic Korai or statues of young women, sometimes associated with Persephone.

The figurine is identified as as an unknown goddess, possibly Hera, given the context of the find in a sanctuary of  that deity. Traces of red paint remain at the bottom.
