Paestum: Corinthian black figure jar with animals

Paestum: Corinthian black figure jar (Mus.Naz.Paestum; photo Athena Review 2003)

This two-handled jar with a lid (pyxis) was found in Tomb 60 in the Necropolis of Contrada Laghetto at Paestum. A series of animals are painted around the vessel in the so-called Orientalizing style, commonly used in Archaic pottery from Corinth. The jar dates from 570-560 BC.
