Paestum: Two alabastrons with kore (maiden) figures

Paestum: Two alabastrons with kore figures (Mus.Naz.Paestum; photo Athena Review 2003)

These two fragmentary alabastrons or perfume jars are in the form of  young maidens or Kores, contemporary with Late Archaic Kore sculptures such as at the Acropolis in Athens, dating ca. 520-510 BC.

Their forms suggest use as votive offerings to the shrine of a goddess such as Hera or Demeter.
