Jerusalem: Church of St. Anne (1899 photo)

Jerusalem: Church of St. Anne (photo: Bell Archive NcU)

The Church of St. Anne, located just north of the Temple Mount by the Pool of Bethesda,  has a well-preserved facade built during the Crusader period (ca. 1000-1260 AD). This 1899 photo by Gertrude Bell shows the portal and facade of the church, which is traditionally considered to contain the tomb of the Virgin Mary.

The Gertrude Bell photo archive is at Newcastle University in England.
