Jerusalem: Map from Crusader period on psalter (12th c. AD)

Jerusalem: Crusader map on 12th c. Psalter (Nat.Lib.NL, the Hague)

This unique map from northwest France, drawn on a 12th century Psalter, shows a circular plan of Jerusalem as the center of the world. It also labels specific features such as the Gate of St Stephen, various churches, the site of Golgatha, and the Temple of Salomon (the Dome of the Rock).

At bottom, a group of crusaders on horseback are also depicted. The Psalter manuscript is now held at the National Library of the Netherlands in the Hague.
