Jerusalem: Map of city by Catherwood (Catherwood 1837)

This 1837 map of Jerusalem and its environs is by Frederick Catherwood, a British architect.

Catherwood published his drawings with the American diplomat and writer John L. Stephens in Travels in Egypt, Petrea, and the Holy Land (1837). Two years later Stephens and Catherwood went to Central America and made the first detailed reports of Maya sites and hieroglyphs, for which they are perhaps best known.
