Jerusalem: Dome of the Rock elevation and section (Catherwood 1837)
This
1833 drawing by English architect Frederick Catherwood is the first
known detailed architectural section of the Dome of the Rock.
Catherwood also made an accurate plan of Jerusalem.
Catherwood published his drawings of Jerusalem with John L.Stephens in Travels in Egypt, Petrea, and the Holy Land (1837). Two years later they went to central America and made the first detailed reports of Maya sites and hieroglyphs.
