Valley of the Kings: map of tomb locations in Eastern section    .

Tombs in Eastern section of the Valley of the Kings (after Theban Mapping Project).

The Eastern part of the Valley of the Kings, shown in this map, contains most of the royal tombs of the New Kingdom (17th-20th Dynasties). Few of the tombs, however, contained mummies when they were rediscovered in the early 19th century by Wilkinson, Belzoni, and others.

Due to extensive tomb robbery in ancient times. most of the royal mummies had been moved by about 1000-900 BC to either of two locations: Tomb KV35 in the Valley of the Kings; or Tomb DB-320 in nearby Deir el-Bahri.

The individual tomb n
umbers  shown in the map are preceded by the prefix "KV" for Valley of the Kings. This Tomb numbering system was initiated by Wilkinson in 1825, who examined Tombs KV1-KV21.
