W.M. Flinders Petrie worked at Abydos several times beween the 1890s and the early 1920s. Predynastic and early Dynastic tombs were found at Abydos and several other sites in upper Egypt. This 1922 photo shows Petrie walking in the desert at Abydos during a site survey.
