Ibis mummies from Thebes (French Expedition, 1798-1800)

The white ibis, a large bird considered sacred in Egypt and associated with the god Thoth, was frequently mummified and placed in tombs. These and other examples illustrated in the Natural History volumes of the Description de l'Egypt are from Thebes.
