Nilotic crocodiles (Description de l'Egypte, Hist. Nat. vol. I, Reptiles, Pl.1, 1809)

This figure, drawn by Redoute and Saint-Hilary, shows both adult and juvenile examples of the Nilotic crocodile, Crocodylus niloticus. This species of crocodile was associated with the god Sobek, and was frequently mummified and placed in tombs at temples of Sobek, such as at Tebtunis and other Fayum sites.
