Sources de la Seine: Bust of Sequana (Dijon Mus. Arch; Athena Review Image Archive)
This bronze bust of Sequana, the goddess of the river Seine, was found at the shrine to Sequana at Sources-de-la-Seine, the spring headwaters of the river.
The hollow bronze sculpture of the regional deity is sophisticated and well executed. Sequana wears a breast emblem and coronet, and has a Classical appearance somewhat similar to that of the major Roman goddesses Minerva or Diana.
The sculpture is in the Dijon Museum of Archaeology.
