Sources de la Seine: Ex voto plaque with inscription to Sequanna

Sources de la Seine: Ex voto plaque (Dijon Mus. Arch; Athena Review Image Archive)

The female river deity Sequana (Seine) was worshipped at a temple shrine at the source of the river, at a spring believed to have healing power. Gallo-Roman pilgrims seeking cures placed votive images of their ailments at the shrine.

This bronze plaque, about 5 cm long,  has an inscription to Sequanna and a pair of small raised hemispheres which may represent eyes.

The plaque is in the Dijon Museum of Archaeology.
