Marilly: Grave stela of a man and woman

Marilly: Grave stela (Dijon Mus. Arch; Athena Review Image Archive)

This Gallo-Roman grave stela from Marilly has an unusual composition of a woman dressed in a toga lying above the head of a bearded male figure, who carries a toga folded over his arm. The composition could signify an overhead view, rather than frontal, with them lying in adjacent plots.

The stela is in the Dijon Museum of Archaeology.
