Dijon: Grave stela of man holding writing tablet

Dijon: Grave stela of man with writing tablet (Dijon Mus. Arch; Athena Review Image Archive)

This finely-carved limestone figure of a man with a writing tablet stands in a niche of an ashlar block, originally from a monument with pillars. Presumably this elaborate carving, dated to the 2nd or 3rd century AD,  was part of a Gallo-Roman grave or funerary shrine representing a prominent family in ancient Dijon.

The sculpture is in the Dijon Museum of Archaeology.
