Barjon: Gallo-Roman grave stela of man in shrine

Barjon: Gallo-Roman grave stela (Dijon Mus. Arch; Athena Review Image Archive)

This funerary relief from Barjon portrays a male figure standing within a shrine. The inscription reads D M ATTICILTA.

"D M" is an abbreviation for "Dis Manibus," the underworld spirit frequently invoked on Roman tombstones. "Atticilta" is evidently the name of the deceased.

The stela, dating from the 2nd-4th century AD, is in the Dijon Museum of Archaeology.
