The West Magazines at Knossos

The West Magazines at Knossos (photo: Athena Review).

The west magazines in the New Palace at Knossos were ancient storerooms from the Middle Minoan III period (1700-1600 BC), located near the Central Court. A significant portion of the ground floor of the palaces was devoted to storage magazines containing large pottery jars (pithoi). These magazines were often located in the west wing, as at Knossos where they were found by Evans to be filled with numerous pithoi, many still in place today.
