The Minoan settlement at Gournia, located in east-central Crete, is named for a prevalence of stone basins called "gournes" in Greek. The site was excavated by Harriet Boyd between 1901 and 1905. The report of her findings was published in 1908 by the American Exploration Society.

This view shows a residential area at Gournia, with house foundations from the Middle Minoan III through Late Minoan IA periods, dating from 1700-1500 BC.
