Lisieux: Gallo-Roman figurine of a woman

Lisieux: Gallo-Roman figurine of woman (Caen Mus.Normandie; photo Athena Review 2013)

This terracotta figurine of a woman, found at Lisieux, dates from the 2nd century AD. The hair and facial features are neatly done, while the large ears appear to be exaggerated or caricature-like.

Lisieux, located about 25 miles (40 km) east of Caen, was occupied from the 1st century AD onward by Roman settlements, with at least two necropoli from different time frames.
