Frenouville: Late Gallo-Roman bronze bracelets.

Frenouville: Late Gallo-Roman bracelets (Caen Mus.Normandie; photo Athena Review 2013)

The necropolis at Frenouoville, located 8 km southeast of Caen, was near a Roman villa, the likely source of many of the burials. These bracelets are burial items that date from the 4th century AD, during the late Gallo-Roman period.

At top is a bracelet made of a single strand of bronze, with a clasp like that of a fibula (also resembling a safety pin). At bottom are two bracelets made from double strands. Each has a tiny clasp.

The center bracelet has two bronze strands braided or twisted around each other. The bracelet at bottom has one strand or wire wound tightly around the other strand.
