Baalbek: Temple of Venus, plan

Baalbek: Temple of Venus, plan (Frauberger 1892)

Located southeast of the Acropolis, the Temple of Venus was built ca. AD 220 during the Severan period. As this plan by Frauberger shows, it has a unique circular plan with five concave wall sections connected by Corninthian columns. The entranceway is approached by broad staircase with a colonnade at the top.
