Baalbek, Temple of Bacchus, detail of portal (photo: Frauberger 1892 table 15)

This 1892 photo by Heinrich Frauberger shows the elaborate relief decoration on the lintel and sides of the entrance portal to the cella of the Temple of Bacchus at Baalbek. The lintel has partly collapsed, with a fallen portion shown supported by a brick pier.

The floral motifs in the relief carvings date from the early second century when the Temple was completed  This photo was published in Frauberger's 1892 book entitled The Acropolis at Baalbek.
