Autun: Gallo-Roman grave stela of woman (Musee Rolin; photo Athena Review 2012)


This fragmentary relief shows a woman holding a mirror (flavellum) in her left hand, and a jar or purse in her right hand.

The sculpture is from Autun, but the specific location is unknown. This grave stela (inv. 142) is dated from the 1st -3rd centuries AD.
