Autun: Gallo-Roman glass flagon shaped as a fish

Autun: Gallo-Roman glass flagon from Givry (Musee Rolin; photo Athena Review 2012)

This image shows a highly-crafted glass flagon in the shape of a fish, found in Givry, located about 30 miles southeast of Autun. The flagon includes a series of thin, applique strips placed around the head and body of the fish, underlying the applique fins and tail parts.

This unique example of Gallo-Roman glassware dates from the 2nd-3rd century AD.
