Autun: Gallo-Roman figurine head of a child, by Pistillus

Autun: Figurine of child by Pistillus (Musee Rolin; photo Athena Review 2012)

This figurine fragment of white terracotta, showing the head and part of the shoulders of a child with an elaborate hairstyle under a hood, was made in the workshop of Pistillus in a northern suburb of Autun.

The figurine dates from the active period of the workshop, from the late 2nd to early 3rd century AD. The find spot or provenience, however, of this figurine (inv. 1567) is unknown.
