Autun: signed mold for Venus figurine by Pistillus (Musee Rolin; photo Athena Review 2012)
This image shows both halves of a mold for a Venus figurine, with the signature of Pistillus placed on the outside of the front half at left. The rear mould and its positive cast are also shown at right. The cast is 16 cm high.
Venus figurines such as this example, found in the parc Saint-Jean of Autun, were among the most common products sold by the Pistillus workshop in Autun in the late 2nd-early 3rd centuries.
