Autun: Gallo-Roman male portrait head (Musee Rolin; photo Athena Review 2012)

This marble statue fragment (inv. 259) shows a male head with beard and hair in a style typical of the 3rd century AD, and worn by the Emperor Gallienus.

Gallienus was co-emperor with his father Valerian from AD 253-261, and sole emperor from 261-268.
